Our PolyCarbonate Water Bottle- A close look at the facts

Is the hype around the ‘dangers’ of Polycarbonate Bottle use based on Fact?
Summary
Polycarbonate plastic is a lightweight, high-performance plastic that possesses a unique balance of toughness, dimensional stability, optical clarity, high heat resistance and excellent electrical resistance. Because of these attributes, polycarbonate is used in a wide variety of common products including digital media (e.g. CDs, DVDs), electronic equipment, automobiles, construction glazing, sports safety equipment and medical devices. The durability, shatter-resistance and heat-resistance of polycarbonate also make it an ideal choice for tableware as well as reusable bottles and food storage containers that can be conveniently used in the refrigerator and microwave (APME).
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a key building block of polycarbonate plastic. In recent years a number of researchers from government agencies, academia and industry worldwide have studied the potential for low levels of BPA to migrate from polycarbonate products into foods and beverages. These studies consistently show that the potential migration of BPA into food is extremely low, generally less than 5 parts per billion, under conditions typical for uses of polycarbonate products.
Coffee drinking associated with lower risk of endometrial cancer

Friday, November 25, 2011.
A report published this month in the American Association for Cancer Research journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention revealed a connection between coffee drinking and protection against the development of endometrial cancer (cancer of the lining of the uterus). Preliminary research findings involving coffee suggest that the beverage may be protective against obesity-associated cancers, as well as those that have been associated with insulin and the major female hormone estrogen.
The one problem with trying to be healthy, is that everyone assumes it involves copious amounts of salad and nothing else. A girl can't survive on salad alone. But this quick and tasty salad might make me want to give it a try. Its delicious. Its also a good idea with Spring here, and Summer soon...
Ingredients for dressing:
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar or fresh lemon juice
1 garlic clove finely chopped
crushed sea salt and black pepper to taste
Optional: 1 teaspoon whole grain mustard
Salad:
Greens: Whatever is seasonal. Rocket, lettuce, watercress, spinach
1/4 chopped onion, red onion gives it some nice colour
1/4 cucumber cut lengthways and sliced
1 chopped tomato or a handful cherry tomato
handful of depipped olives
Optional: Half a round of feta
Also optional: a tin of tuna for some protein
Put all the dressing ingredients directly into the salad bowl. Swirl the bowl for about 30 seconds so the oil and vinegar mix. The put the greens in, and the rest of your salad ingredients on top. Toss and eat.
Let me know if you try it or if you have any great salad ideas in the comments.
I've got bad news. You're going to die. Yep, the Internet told me.
You shouldn't drink too much water, it could kill you. It's true, water intoxication. Black cohosh causes liver cancer. Selenium increases the chance of cancer. You can die from being too alkaline. And if you take Colloidal Silver, you'll turn grey.
You may have heard the saying: There's 3 kinds of lies: lies, damn lies, and statistics.
This is because studies create data. And data is meaningless until it is interpreted. And therein lies the problem. Although studies are based on factual data, the data can be twisted to prove what you need to.
It's like reporting your finances. When you have to pay tax, you make sure the tax man knows you made no profit, everything costs, and you are barely scraping by. But when you apply for a bond, the bank knows that the money is rolling in, and you have nothing to spend it on, except your bond.
The same is true of health information on the Internet. If you're tired all the time, you look it up. And find out you have a tumor. No wait, it's adrenal fatigue. It might be fibromyalgia. Hang on, it's an adverse reaction to calcium that one person in 150 million have. Then again, you have been going to bed at 3am every night for the past 2 weeks.
What's my point? It's not 'stay off the internet'. It's 'question of what you read.' If a certain viewpoint is portrayed on a subject, who is the source? Do they have anything to gain by putting forward that viewpoint? Do other sites agree? Is it all based on one study? Does the adverse reaction only happen in the most obscure of circumstances or extreme dosage?
If you're still not convinced, I have some great waterfront land available in Florida...
So I had a hamburger the other day...
And it was lovely. Bet you won’t find that in most health and wellness books or diets. So am I a hypocrite? Not a shining example of living Sevenpointfive? Nope. Wanna know why?
- The patty was made at the restaurant. Why is that important? Fresh ingredients. They not only taste better, but won’t have all the preservatives or treatments or binders mass produced stuff does.
- Organic meat. Organic means that no chemical or pesticides were used in the rearing of the food. It doesn’t guarantee that none were added after it was harvested, but its a good start. If you can get free range as well, you're doing even better.
- Ciabatta roll. Freshly made, naturally risen bread made with stone ground flour. No additives. No bleached white flour.
- Butter. It had butter on it. Not margarine. Not 'spread.' etc. Natural is better. The less tampering with your food, the healthier it is.
I’m sorry to hear about your fructose, lactose, gluten, nut allergy. This is a pet peeve of mine. So I’m sorry if I’m not too supportive. I know food allergies seem to be on the rise, but how many gluten intolerant people were mentioned in the bible?
“The Isrealites wandered through the wilderness for 40 years, and the whole time Zebediah complained of bloatedness.” Hezekiah 16:6 (Disclaimer: This is not an actual bible text. The ANC has not approved this quote.)
I find it ludicrous. I know science is making new discoveries all the time, and many of them are diseases. And I know many people are suffering ill health, and as soon as they stopped eating milk/bread/fruit/Scandinavian beetroot, they felt better. Why?
I’d like to figure out the cause. Lets look at Gluten intolerance:
- Is it really gluten you have a problem with? Could be the mass produced, genetically engineered wheat and yeast bread you’re eating? Its unlikely that it is brimming with nutrition.
- Is it only gluten? I find many people seem to ‘discover’ a food allergy, and then suddenly discover a whole lot more. Does that mean that there are hundreds of mom’s out there making defective babies?
- Gluten is a simple carbohydrate which has a high GI which can cause sugar spikes and drops. Leading to many ‘allergy’ symptoms.
- Cutting out gluten relieves the body of needing to digest something that takes a lot of energy. So often one feels all energetic suddenly. It must be the gluten. I don’t think so.
- Heat kills enzymes. Enzymes help our body break down food. If they are not supplied in the food we eat, our body needs to convert metabolic enzymes to digestive enzymes for our body to digest that food. Which means slower digestion and less energy. Supplementing enzymes relieves this problem.
So before you go cutting out that major food group, try get your body balanced first and see if it goes away as suddenly as it arrived.
